Sara Endalew — born in Ethiopia, moved to the United States in 2005, active in the Twin Cities. Trained at Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Addis Ababa. Watercolour, oil, and photography. Subjects: women and womanhood, cultural practices carried from East Africa, cities and landscapes. Her work has been shown in galleries, hospitals, schools, neighbourhood businesses, and on Twin Cities metro buses and light rail.

Women in Northern Africa use smoke bath for personal beauty purposes. Many married women practice it at least once a week, covering themselves with a blanket to create a small body tent and using sweet smoke from billowed wood around their body.
